If you’ve ever worked construction, firefighting, law enforcement, forestry, or any other job that requires sturdy clothes and specialized PPE you’ve probably realized that it’s not easy to find gear that’s gonna fit women, especially smaller women. Luckily, there is now a store in Brooklyn (and online) that can help you find woman-specific or smaller sized workwear and safety gear.

Queer Fashion Survey

We all know that it’s a pain in the ass sometimes – or always – to find stylish clothes that fit right. I’m not exactly sure what the plans are for this survey over at The Boi’s Department, but if nothing else it’s a way to make ourselves heard. So go over there and tell ’em about yourself and your style.

Breaking Down Homophobia

There’s a great project up on Kickstarter (a site for folks to get funding for their projects) by photographer Drea Zalaquett, whose goal is to create an art show featuring queer couples and families of all varieties. She’s got some great shots both on her web site and on the project updates page, and I’m really excited to see how the show comes together. It looks like the money will be used mainly for framing and lighting expenses. And if you pledge $5 or more, you get your own free signed print from the artist!

Go take a look

Dyke Streetstyle Blog

I don’t know if you’ve heard of blogs like The Sartorialist or The Style Scout which are just sort of collections of people on the street and their various styles? Well, like many (most?) things in life they are not nearly gay enough. Enter Dyke Streetstyle, a new photo blog to fill this gaping hole. Honestly, this is exactly the sort of thing I wished I could create when I started this blog, but I’m pretty sure I’m the only lesbian in several hundred square miles, which would make it difficult to get pics. Anyway, Dyke Streetstyle only has 3 photos up this far, but here’s to hoping there are many more. (photo by Gerry Alexis via Dyke Streetstyle)

While performing my (generally entirely fruitless) search of the internet in regards to women who prefer dressing in a more masculine style, I came across DapperQ. It is fucking fabulous. It is full of things I wish I knew or I wish I could write about well enough to put ’em up here on Butch Style. The editor, Susan Herr, explains the blog this way

DapperQ is for anyone who wants to make any element of men’s fashion truly their own. It’s for all who have been discouraged — in a million and one subtle and not-so-subtle ways — from gleaning for self-expression from the rich and robust universe pioneered over centuries by dapper gents and today reflected in glossies such as GQ, Details and Vogue for Men.

It looks like it just got off the ground early this year, but it’s already got some interesting articles, great pictures, and fun how-tos. I’ll be going through it later in more detail and reposting my favorites, but I was so excited that I had to tell you about it right this very instant. And on that note …

Well, hell. I figured after I stopped posting, you all would stop coming to my blog so I wouldn’t have to feel bad about not posting. Apparently I’m still getting some views, so now that I have consistent internet access (at least for a bit) I’ll be posting again. Stay tuned.

As my holiday present to the two of you who haven’t given up hope on me yet (and also as my New Years resolution) I’m actually going to start posting again. Merry Butchmas!
