Another classic, but one I just saw for the first time last week when I stayed home sick. It’s amazing to me that many of the reviewers and commenters didn’t see a lesbian relationship – it was plain as day to me. I guess it goes to show that you’ll see what you want. Maybe that’s why my parents had no idea I was gay until I sat ‘em down and told them … Anyway, if you haven’t seen it, it’s a fantastic film. And I’d say Idgie is a great model of 1920′s butch fasion, too.
I was looking for a watch-free-online version of The Celluloid Closet, which is a fantastic documentary about the history of gay cinema, but instead I stumbled across a metafilter post with links to a whole crapton of gay documentaries that I will be watching when I get home.

If you’ve never seen Eddie Izzard’s Dress to kill, it’s fucking fabulous. I’ve probably listened to it or watched it 50 times and it’s still funny. Izzard is a smart British transvestite who enjoys cursing and poking badgers with spoons. What else can you say?

Trembling Before G-d is a fascinating look into the lives of queer Jews who are struggling to reconcile their faith and their sexuality.
The lesbian classic Better Than Chocolate is now available for streaming from Netflix. It’s a great movie about a woman’s struggle with her orientation, identity, and family. Plus, Christina Cox is hella cute.
It’s summer! What better way to celebrate than to watch a whole bunch of bikini-clad surfer girls in a mediocre and short-lived but full-of-gay tv show?

Whilst perusing netflix for something new and interesting to watch I came across this 2005 film about six aggressive – butch/trans/genderqueer – lesbians in NYC. It follows their lives through the course of fame, jail, the military, relationships, and everyday life. If you’ve got netflix, I think it’s certainly worth a watch.
